yes your all correct, I went by today, the bike is there. I was with several people who are not bike riders and they had hear about/read about it, which was nice that it has made an impression on people beyond the biking community.

I cycle to work ervery day and have for years.I feel that if I get hit by a car its my fault that I did not anticipate the action of the car. This is not a bicycling area(YET),so we all must assume the driver won't see us.I think we can do a better job of being seen at night, since its getting dark again so early.By using front and rear lights, reflective clothing, and always helmets,we can help our odds. Our first step is to share the pure joy of bicycling with everyone to get more people on their bikes.

As a runner and cyclist myself, I know first hand the challenges of sharing the road with motorists who are usually driving too fast, oblivious to anyone on foot or on a bicycle and often times just plain rude. I always run/bike with caution and with the assumption that no one sees me, but even then people can still be jerks. I had read about the Ghost Bike Memorial Project in NYC and it was good to see a ghost bike appear in Royal Oak in honor of Jacqueline Robinson. I believe it is the first of it`s kind in Michigan. Ghost bikes not only serve as a solemn memorial to the fallen cyclist, but a poignant reminder to motorists to exercise caution on the roads and respect those who are sharing them. Perhaps if the public were made more aware of the Ghost Bike Project, the symbolism of the "white bike" will be better understood.

The comments to that Freep article are a perfect illustration of why driver training needs to include more focus on cycling. In my experience, even folks that really should know the Rules of Road as they pertain to cyclists (cops, bus drivers) don't.
And the blind hatred some motorists have for cyclists is alarming.

I saw the bike today on my way up Woodward to Birmingham. It is there and it is quite striking from the road. I just wish it was more clear as to WHY it is there from the road.

It's still there as of this morning. It's at the Bank of America on the east side of Woodward, just one block south of 12 Mile Road.
